I write this as a Man Utd fan, what a strange window it was!
I honestly thought we would sign Morata, which I wasn’t too impressed with really. I see Morata as a Chicarito style player, not a player who can sit up front alone and be a physical presence.
When the news broke that Lukaku had all but signed, i was a little more optimistic about the upcoming season! With Ibra out injured and potentially not to be seen in a United shirt again, we need a true physical presence and we get that in abundance with Romelu
Reasons to add Lukaku to your Portfolio
Romelu Lukaku commands the highest fee ever paid for a striker in the Premier League. There are many ways this can be used to a traders advantage. As he is such an expensive player, he will constantly be under scrutiny, meaning one thing, MEDIA BUZZ!
It also helps that he plays for one of the biggest teams in the world, as this all adds to the media attention.
Lukaku is a person who’s not afraid to say what he thinks, he recently scored against Everton and celebrated by holding his finger to his lips towards the Everton fans, in a ‘sshhh’ motion. This alone earnt him Media Buzz dividends for the day!
He will be a great purchase for many media buzz wins, he also has the opportunity to become one of the best strikers in the world.
Reasons why you should consider alternatives
For all of the pros with Lukaku’s game, there are also some issues we have found with his Performance Buzz potential. To put it quite simply, there’s not a great deal of Performance Buzz potential.
Lukaku is not a player that’s heavily involved in the build up play, he may make a pass or two in and amongst it but he won’t generate the points that players such as Insigne,Messi or Thiago will.
He will score many goals, but unfortunately goals won’t be enough to secure a performance buzz win, unless he scores a hat trick and no other players turn up! Another scenario could be if he plays on a Sunday where there’s reduced competition, but that means the payout will be less dividends. So at that point you have to question if you should hold a £6 player for 2p dividend returns!
Lukaku is growing on me, but only as a Man Utd fan. I can’t really see the point in investing in him at current price as return on investment would be quite poor. If he drops to around £3.80-£4 I may start buying!
At current price, there’s better investments out there!

Lukaku is still very young at 24. Forwards usually peak around 26-29, so potentially he’s not yet at his best!
However, he isn’t the playmaker type of footballer who will help with passing and create chances, he tends to be at the end of the attack, popping up with goals. He has scored lots of goals, but are goals going to be enough for Performance Buzz?
