It’s safe to say, this one came as a shock to most football fans. Not many players leave Barcelona, as it’s the pinnacle of any players footballing career. However, Neymar is of a different mentality. Growing up in Santos, he was adored by the fans, then he got his dream move to Barcelona. One problem, he was never the centre of attention as the fans love Messi. Messi being his teammate raised some barriers, he was never going to be the main man at Nou camp, unless he waited for Messi to retire. Messi had free kicks, penalties, you name it. Neymar was waiting in the shadows.
PSG then popped up, proving money is no obstacle by paying the £198m release clause in Neymar’s contract. Barcelona protested this, but they couldn’t stop the Brazilian talisman from leaving for the city of Paris.
PSG didn’t stop there, they also acquired Mbappe & failed to sign Fabinho in time, or they would’ve added him too.
Reasons to Add Neymar to your portfolio
Moving from Barcelona has opened up the door for Neymar, no longer does he have to compete with Messi, now he’s competing against him.
The move to PSG shows they Neymar has ambition, he is moving leagues to try to win the Ballon D’or. I’m sure he’s being paid well too…
This brings about many benefits for traders too. Now Neymar is playing football in a poor league, he has the chance to grab Performance Buzz by the neck and take it by storm!
He should earn considerably more performance buzz points as a PSG player, than he would as a Barcelona player, as he would be sharing the spoils with Suarez & Messi.
Secondly, as he sold for £198m, this makes him by far the most expensive player in the world. With this comes judgement, the media will be watching and reporting on the players every move, so you can also expect him to pick up multiple media buzz points.
It’s a great combination when you get a player that is good for Media AND performance buzz, add to this the fact he has only just turned 25, meaning he has 10 years left at the top!
Potential Reasons to Avoid Neymar
There are also a few reasons you may need to think twice before adding Neymar to your portfolio.
He is £6.25 a share currently, which isn’t a small investment to say the least. If you are going to invest for dividend returns, you will want to own many shares of this player, at over £6 you are going to need a hefty bankroll to afford this!
Let’s say for example you have 300 shares, that’s £1875 worth of investment, to earn £24 worth of dividends at 8p per share. This is just over 1% Return on investment, which is better than banks, but your bank balance won’t lose value as it can’t get injured etc, unlike footballers can. Also, the dividends aren’t guaranteed.
The second Issue with Neymar is that he has started his career with PSG out on the wing, supplying Cavani or Mbappe the goal scoring opportunities. Traders would like him to be put upfront!
Neymar has also got on the wrong side of Cavani already, trying to steal the ball from his hands to take the penalty himself. Cavani refused and took the penalty himself, scoring.
The above story earned neymar media buzz dividends, as it was a huge story for some reason. Probably because it was rumoured that the PSG directors offered Cavani £1 million to pass the penalty taking duties on to Neymar.
Is this all going to Neymars head?
