Performance Buzz has been around for a season and a half now, and if one thing has become clear it’s this:
Managers are just as important to Performance Buzz as players. If a ‘Good’ PB player is in the wrong setup, he won’t be anywhere near as valuable as he should be.
This is because managers have the ultimate ruling over a teams tactics, if they don’t favour your players style, he simply won’t excel.
It’s similar for Media Buzz, there are some managers who naturally get media attention, some who crave it, and some who shy away from the journalists.
I will be giving some examples, good and bad, below.
Good Things about Mourinho
Mourinho has won most of the major honours in world football, taking Porto & Inter Milan far in Europe to kickstart his career. This doesn’t translate into anything that will provide value on the index though, so i’ll keep it focused on that.
One thing we have grown to understand with Jose is that he doesn’t tend to last for much longer than 3 years. He also tends to fall out with the big stars, Pogba at Man Utd, Mata at Chelsea, Hazard at Chelsea, Ronaldo, Marcelo & Ramos at Real Madrid, the list goes on.
The good thing about these high profile fallouts, are that they come with huge media attention. As we saw this season Pogba doubled in price due to his season long feud with Jose.
This is because we get paid out for Media Buzz, which will be a minimum of £0.05 per share, per day. This converts to serious money over the course of a season!
Jose also has a very good win %, which should benefit his teams going deep into the Champions League, where the payouts increase for a smaller pool of players.
The Bad Side of Mourinho (Football Index Effects only)
Most traders will admit, if we hold a player that’s capable of winning Media Buzz, we would all love for Mourinho to be the manager! He just has something which attracts media attention, at every club he goes to.
However, as we know, there are multiple ways to win on Football Index.
The Special Ones tactical play style of ensuring his team stay defensively solid, as opposed to going out and kill the game, does not suit the Performance Buzz Metrics.
He’s pretty poor in terms of winning Performance Buzz dividends, which is why most Man Utd players rose when he was sacked! If the poor PB scoring isn’t bad enough, he tends to demoralise players so they become a shadow of what they once were.
He’s also an unknown specimen, he likes to chop and change very often, so there’s a good chance your player might not start. This has a dramatic effect on his chances of winning dividends as it’s rare that Subs come on & win Performance Buzz.
Mourinho is absolutely the best manager you could wish for, if you are only playing the Media Buzz game. The formula of having a Star Player + his media presence are a great dividend churner.
However, he does lack on the Performance Buzz front, he’s not dreadful and has won some dividends from PB, but when compared with other Top Teams, it looks weak.
Man United earnt just over £1 in total for PB Positional dividends, compared with; Arsenal £1.96, Real Madrid £2.60, PSG £2.08, Man City £2.22.
£1 isn’t a bad haul, but it should really be up there with the teams listed, as Man Utd are one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Oh, I guess you can tell I am a Man Utd fan!
